0.~ About the series

0.1 Story of Captain Tsubasa

This manga talks about a boy who enjoys playing soccer more than anything in
his life. The story starts when he moves into a new city, where he meets
Ishizaki and the great goalkeeper Genzo Wakabayashi from the Shutetsu school,
the champion of Japan. After a individual confrontation between them, Tsubasa
meets Roberto Hongo, which will be his coach, and we assist to the great game
"Nankatsu vs. Shutetsu". In the middle of the game Taro Misaki arrives and he
will form the "Golden Combination" with Tsubasa, ending the game by 2-2.
Together they will play on a new team, Nankatsu (yeah, the same name but a
different team) and come up to the national championship, where they start by
losing against Meiwa (with Kojiro Hyuga and Takeshi Sawada in it) by 6-7, they
win to Tachibana Twins’ Hanawa (those two had a really strange but original way
of playing) by 3-2, to Nakanishi’s Naniwa by 5-1 and to Jun Misugi’s Mushashi
(he was really good, but had heart problems) by 5-4. So, the finals will be...
"Nankatsu vs. Meiwa" (again!), but this time it will be even more interesting
since both team have new goalkeepers, as Ken Wakashimazu for Meiwa and
Wakabayashi for Nankatsu (he was hurt, so he hadn’t play up to now; this will
be his last game, since he is going to Germany to became a professional
player), finishing this very long game by 4-2, Nankatsu winning. I shall
mention Nankatsu’s first goal, in which Misaki (this was his last game too,
since his father was going to move to another place) and Tsubasa shoot at the
same time, using an impressive technique that will be called "Twin Shot".
The story continues 2 years from that championship, during this time Tsubasa
won two other times the national championship and tries to win a third time,
feat never achieved by anyone else. After playing against Azuma-ichi, a team in
which a really rough player named Sõda plays (he damages Tsubasa), they play
against some old pals, like Hanawa (Tachibana twins used a new technique called
Skylab) and Tsubasa finally master a shot that will be his special, the Drive
Shot, against the giant Hiroshi Jito, who played for Hirado. On the finals they
play against Toho, a team from Tokyo in which Hyuga, Wakashimazu and Takeshi
now play. Well... sort of, the coach didn’t want Hyuga to play but he did it
after all, using his special, Tiger Shot. After another long game, it finishes
in a tie (4-4), being both teams called winner (in this national tournament
there aren’t any penalty kicks in the end of the games)...
Now the best players will go into the national team in order to play in an
international tournament in France. After some preparation matches, one of
which against Wakabayashi and Karl Heinz Schneider (the "Kaiser" of European
Soccer, both playing for Hamburg SV), they win to Italy and their "Perfect
Keeper" Gino Hernandez by 2-1 and to Argentina (with "soccer prodigy" Diaz and
his friend Pascual, Diaz was surely impressive but Japan's team work made them
win). After wining to France in the penalty kicks (5-4), they will finally play
to Germany, which includes Schneider (the "Kaiser"), Kartz, Magas (or Margus, I
prefer using the first one since it sounds me better), Schester and Dutter
Muller (a giant keeper), and they win by 3-2. Tsubasa goes to Brazil, to play
for San Paulo FC with his old coach from the times of early Nankatsu, Roberto
Hongõ. And this is where the first set of manga’s finish, after 37 chapters...

0.2 Story of Captain Tsubasa World Youth

This set of 18 chapters starts with the presentation of a new japanese
character named Aoi Shingo, who becomes a fan of Tsubasa after his team being
beaten by Nankatsu (Tsubasa's old team in Japan), so he goes to Italy in order
to be a better player. After much trouble, he gets to join Inter Milan, whose
goalkeeper is Gino Hernandez, who becomes Shingo's friend. Then, we get to see
the brazillian championship's final, Tsubasa against the brazillian prodigy,
Carlos Santana, who (like Tsubasa) is also able to learn some of the opponent's
techniques. At the same time, a plot from Gamo (a coach that now appears) is
unveiled... He made a team of seven players (Real Japan 7, if you are
wondering) that would confront the japanese nation team (split in 3 groups of 7
players), and if those last ones lost, 7 players would be thrown out of the
team. Sadly, they lost, so Hyuga, Misaki, Jitõ, Sõda, Nitta, Masao and Kazuo
Tachibana are thrown out of the team and Wakashimazu also leaves the team (he
says he doesn't want to be just a replacement for Wakabayashi), making harder
to Japan getting a win in the coming event, Asian Cup. With the help of Tsubasa
(that came back from Brazil) they manage to win the first two matches, but they
have a hard time against Thailand, since the 3 Konsawatto brothers are really
good at aerial soccer and Shinpurasu Bunnark (a tough defender who uses his
Muay-Thai skills in the field) can hurt Tsubasa, making him not able to attack.
Luckly, Wakabayashi arrives when the score was 4-1, and although he can't catch
any balls (he had both hands broken, due to shots of Levin and Cruyfford) he
manages to stop all of the opponent's shots, Shingo also appears and his
combinated moves with Tsubasa make Japan being able to win this match by 5-4.
During that time, the 7 players that were thrown out were training hard in
order to get new techniques, so Hyuga manages to develop one of the best shots
ever seen, the Rayju (if you are wondering, it is a thunder related beast from
japanese mythology) Shot. Due to those new techniques those players can (this
time) defeat R.J.7 and enter the national team in order to play in the Asian
Cup. They beat teams like Saudi Arabia (from whose captain, the prince Mark
Owaiaran, appears to be one of the best defenders ever), China (with a player
named Shõ that is able to counter most shots with his "Dragon Counter Shot")
and South Korea. By doing so, they get to join the World Cup (for players less
than 20 years old)... They start by playing against Mexico, whose great
goalkeeper, Ricardo Espadas, was able to stop Hyuga's Rayju Shoot, but despite
the difficulties they manage to beat them by 2-1. Against Uruguay, they have
another hard match, mainly because Ryoma Hino (the "Japanese Bomber", one of
R.J.7's players, who had double nationality) is also playing and his Tornado
Shot is great, finally they beat it by 6-5. Against Italy they have an easy
match since both Hernandez and Salvatore Gentile ("European Libero One") were
hurt due to Hino's Tornado Shot, and they win 4-0. On the quarters of final
they get to play against Sweden, who had great players like Larrson,
Fredericks, Brolin (a good defender who manages to stop Hyuga's Rayju Shot) and
Levin (yep, the same player who had injured Wakabayashi), but due to the
appearence of the impressive defender Akai Tomeiya (replacing Matsuyama, his
mate Fujisawa was in the hospital), who stops every of Levin's Levin Shot
(yeah, he has a technique with his name ^_^ ) they win 1-0. In the Half Finals
they get to play against Holland, their captain Brian Cruyfford (the other
player that injured Wakabayashi) was playing but UNFORTUNATELY we don't get to
see the match, for some "not interesting" reason, we only know that they won
1-0. Finally, they get to the World Cup's finals and they will be playing
against....... Brazil, whose coach is Roberto Hongo (Tsubasa's old coach at
Japan and Brazil), who says that Tsubasa wouldn't be able to win this time.
After a first half time in which Brazil was surely better than Japan, Santana
is able to score a goal to Wakabayashi. Japan counter with a great Twin
Overhead Shot by Tsubasa and Misaki's Golden Combination and even score another
goal with Seiki Rayju Shot (in which Rayju is used as a pass and Tsubasa and
Misaki shoot with a Twin Shot). When the match was almost over, Roberto uses
his secret player named Naturezza, who is even able to score a goal to
Wakabayashi FROM OUTSIDE THE GOAL AREA (!), making a tie. On the extra time the
hard match continues, but at the end Tsubasa finishes by surpassing the great
player Naturezza and scores a goal, making Japan win the World Cup (for player
that have less than 20 years old). We also get to know that Sanae and Tsubasa
get married and this last one goes to play for Barcelona, a spanish team, and
all the other players join other teams, mainly those of J-League, but some
(like Hyuga, who will play for Juventus) continue to play in their teams, like
Akai Tomeiya... And that's how those chapters of the manga finish.

1.~ Walkthrough

Nankatsu vs Nishigaoka
As usual in every game, this is going to be a first, easy match. If you
are having trouble scoring, just pass the ball to Tsubasa and shoot with
him, his shots are powerful enough even for scoring from a large
distance.

Nankatsu vs Minamiuwa
They just have a good player, his name is Ishida and he is a midfielder,
just like Tsubasa. This team may score a lot of goals, mainly because you
didn't leveled up a lot after the first game and most of your players are
still weak, so only Tsubasa will be able to score most of the times,
using his Overhead Shot it will be a almost sure goal. Don't bother if
you loose, you will return even more powerful and having more chances of
winning. If you tie, then you will have to play th Penalty Kicks...

Nankatsu vs Azumaichi
Things may get somehow complicated by now. Soda plays for this team, and
his Kamisori Shot can score you even from a large distance, just hope
that Ishizaki or any of your defensive players can block it. Fortunately,
Tsubasa will be able to use his Drive Shot by now, but you may still have
careful since the opponent team (mainly Soda) can block this shot (this
is weird, in the manga almost anyone could block it). Try using Tsubasa
and Kisugi to score, Ishizaki and the defensive players to block Soda's
shots and you, also, you should you the midfielders to quickly advance in
the field, namely Taki. Be prepared to level up if you are a newby.

Nankatsu vs Hanawa
The strange Tachibana Twins' play here, so you must be really careful
since this is going to be a REALLY TOUGH MATCH, YOU MAY HAVE TO LOOSE A
LOT IN ORDER TO LEVEL UP, the Tachibana's Skylab is quite good since it
can score every time they use it. Tsubasa's Drive Shot works fine
although it can be intercepted sometimes, so you'd better not try to
score using it from a large distance.

Nankatsu vs Meiwa-Higashi
Easy match since Hyuga, Sawada and Wakashimazu don't play here anymore,
just strike using Tsubasa and use all the others to backup since they
can't score at all.

Nankatsu vs Hirado
This match may be quite hard if you are not at a high level, don't use
Tsubasa's Drive Shot from a large distance since Jito (a defensive
player) can easily intercept it; also, he can make combinations with Sano
(a great forward, the best in this team) for scoring easily. If you can
control the game from those two players, you can win easily.

Nankatsu vs Furano
This team's group work is really good, most of the time they rely on
Matsuyama to score with his Eagle Shot (which is really good, it can
score even from a large distance since your weak GK, Morisaki, won't be
able to stop it). Don't use Tsubasa's Drive Shot often, Matsuyama can
easily intercept it, just use it when there isn't anyone between Tsubasa
and the opponent GK (Kato, if I remenber correctly). This may get to be a
difficult match, don't worry if you loose since you'll get a chance to
level up AND, this time, you won't have to play the match against Hirado
again! ^^

Nankatsu vs Toho
This is going to be quite hard, you'll be fighting the best team in
Japan, they have Sawada, Hyuga (yeah, he uses his mighty Tiger Shot most
of the time and it is a almost sure goal, just hope that they hit the
post) and the greatest GK you see up to now, Ken Wakashimazu. Sawada
isn't good at all, although he is one of Toho's most important players,
since he will be the one who will try always pass the ball to Hyuga, so
that Toho's captain can give the victory to his team by using his Tiger
Shot... Although Morisaki (your GK, if you don't remenber it) can't stop
it normally, if you can get to this match at a high level (mainly by
loosing matches just to level up), there is a small chance for Morisaki
punching the ball away. As for scoring goals to that great GK that
Wakashimazu is, try using Tsubasa's Drive Shot inside your opponent's
goal area for having a real chance of scoring, since at this point he is
able to stop almost every shot from outside of his penalty area; no other
players are able to score goals to him, just Tsubasa has a chance for it,
so use him just for the final strike. Don't care if you loose, just play
the match against Furano as many times as you need to level up until you
can win to this team.

Japan vs Toho
This will be a the Toho's team but from an higher age, they aren't good
at all so just try to score as many goals as you can with Tsubasa and
Hyuga, those two are the best players you have by now, you should score a
lot with them just to level them up for the next international matches,
so they can be of great help there.

After this match you will get into the plane for making a trip for a
special tournament (for those Tsubasa fans out there, although the
tournament is in France it ISN'T Shin Captain Tsubasa, so you'll fight
some RANDOM teams that didn't appear in that anime) and you can get a
new and, I must say, very usuful player, TARO MISAKI, who can combine
with Tsubasa for the amazing (and "powerful") Golden Combinations. I
don't recall how you can get him, so wait for another version for getting
this accurate info.

ATTENTION: THE NEXT 4 MATCHES WILL BE RANDOMLY CHOSEN FROM ONE OF THE
FOLLOWING (sorry if I don't translate every team YET...)

Japan vs ??
Easy match, just score as much as you can using Tsubasa, Hyuga, Matsuyama
and all the others and you may finish by him.

Japan vs Uruguay
Tough match, this team doesn't have any specials but their normal shots
can even hurt Wakashimazu, whose Sankakugeri (his special catch) won't
even be able to stop those shots. Try scoring with Tsubasa's Drive Shot
and Hyuga's Tiger Shot for more effective results.

Japan vs Holland?
This will be easy, I don't believe they have any specials and Wakashimazu
can stand all those shots from the opponent players, so you must keep on
striking with Hyuga, Tsubasa and Misugi (yeah, you should put him into
play, for those who don't japanese, he is the last player from the list
right; just before Morisaki, your only spare GK).

Japan vs Argentina
They will be kinda hard, this team's main players will be Pascual and
"Soccer Prodigy" Diaz, who can also use DRIVE SHOOT, which power you
already know, so use Wakashimazu's Sankakugeri to try to stop it. For
scoring, try using Tsubasa's Drive Shot and Hyuga's Tiger Shot for
striking, mainly inside the opponent goal area for best results.

Japan vs ??????
Easy match, once again Tsubasa and Hyuga will be your main players for
scoring and winning this match.

Japan vs Italy
HARD MATCH, the opponent team isn't very good but they have the best GK
you'll saw up to now, Gino Hernandez. He can catch almost any of your
shots, so your main target will be stopping the opponent team from
scoring any goal and then try to strike with all your power, I mean,
Drive Shot, Tiger Shot, Matsuyama's Eagle Shot and all the others you
desire. It will surely be hard to score, so if they score any goal it
will be hard to win this match.
After this match you will receive Coach Kira's ball, which Hyuga will use
for training in order to develop his new shot, the powerful NeoTiger
Shot.

SO, THOSE WERE THE LEVELS THAT WERE RANDOMLY CHOSEN... After winning this
part of the game, the story will proceed.

Japan vs Uruguay
As told before this team doesn't have any specials but their normal shots
are as good as any special shots, especially the ones of their captain,
Victorino (if you don't know japanese, you can recognise him because he
seems more sun-tanned than the other players). Use Wakashimazu's
Sankakugeri to stop Victorino's shots and, for all the other players, I
believe you can just punch the ball away. Hope you win them with the help
of Hyuga's NeoTiger Shot or, if required, Tsubasa's Drive Shot inside the
goal area.

Japan vs France
HARD MATCH... France's star players Pierre and Napoleon are really good
players and the rest of the team is also quite good. You must be quite
careful about Pierre's Slider Shot and Napoleon's Cannon Shot since they
are really good, the only sure way of stopping it most of the times is by
using Wakashimazu's Sankakugeri, although this is very costy... so, you
must try do use all your defensive players to weaken those shots so that
Wakashimazu is strong enough to punch the ball away (NEVER try to catch
it, since you won't be able to do it for sure). As for scoring, Hyuga's
NeoTiger Shot is good even from the middle of the field (even better if
you use it with nobody between you and the keeper, since sometimes the
french defensive players can stop that shot) and you can also use
Tsubasa's Drive Shot inside the goal area, for backup you should try
switching Nitta or one of the Tachibana Twins for Misugi since he is very
good at dribbling, so you can surely use this player for quickly
advancing in the field. Don't be very teased if you can't win, just play
the match against Uruguay again until you can win easily to this team.

Japan vs Germany
Yeah, it appears that once again Germany will be in the finals, just like
you. They have Kartz, Schester, Magas, Schneider (the impressive
"Kaiser", whose Fire Shot was never even touched for any goalkeeper up to
the end of Shin Captain Tsubasa, except for Genzo Wakabayashi) and
also... Dutter Muller; this giant keeper is able to stop almost every of
your shots, EVEN Hyuga's NeoTiger Shot. Fortunately, you may not have
noticed it but for this last match you will get Genzo Wakabayashi (the
Super Great Goal Keeper) on your team, so be sure to put him in the field
right in the beggining so that you have more chances of defending your
goal area. For those who don't know japanese, Wakabayashi's last letter
is like an horizontally inverted "J". This is going yo be a really tough
match, you must really watch Schneider since he has his impressive Fire
Shot but you should also worry about the rest of the team since they are
also quite good. IF YOU KNOW JAPANESE, switch Misugi (be sure he can
play, this will only happen if he didn't play in the match before this
one) for one of the Tachibana Brothers' and switch the other brother for
Sawada. Now, start the match. Not even Tsubasa's Drive Shot can score
(even from inside the opponent goal area) so the only way to score is by
using Hyuga's NeoTiger Shot from inside the goal area AND with nobody
between you and the that great GK that Muller is; but not even this may
be able to score, so try to prevent them from ever scoring and keep on
striking with every of your players (despite all their shots won't have
any chance of scoring) at a certain time Tsubasa will be able to use a
new and unique shot, a Twin Shot that he will perform with Hyuga, which
you should only use from inside your opponent's goal area so that you
will be able to score (please notice that this shot can only be used once
AND MAY NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO SCORE TO MULLER!). Even if you do you also
need to score another goal, give that task to Hyuga's NeoTiger Shot since
it is the best shot you have by now. As for defending, as I already told
you should put Wakabayashi on the goals since he is able to catch the
shots of almost every german player, you should just watch Schneider's
shots since he is a good overall player, Wakabayashi should be used to
punch away every of Schneider's shots and catch the shots from the other
players, task that will be easy for him since he is really better than
Wakashimazu. Hope you can win easily; if not, you can always replay the match
against France and (hope not) also against your previous opponent to level up
until you can get a win. Still, if you can never win, mail me! ^_^'
After winning (I hope...) you'll see a cool ending (mainly if you know japanese
:P) and you can also see the names of almost every character who appears
in this game, a cool feature who also appears on other Captain Tsubasa
games. :-)

2.~ Finding Taro Misaki

When you get to play with the Japan National team in France you will notice
there's a small quest before every match. That's the quest you must get in
to have Misaki playing on your team... Getting him seems to be a random
event, but this is what you should do: Chose the second option, use its
both options and finally select the third option in the main menu. Now
press the first option and go to the second place (the one with "Arc du
Triumphe"). Select the second option and then the 2 options inside it. Now
go to the third choice and use the first option, a small selection square
will appear. Place it under the monument (right in the middle of it) and
select it, a different text will appear. Now go to the first option and
proceed to the next place, the one with some stairs. Once again use the
two options of the second (main) option and then the third option, put the
square in the legs of the person which you can see in the stairs. Move to
next screen (picking the first option in the main menu) and then go to
the place with some grass. Do the same steps as before and you will see
Katagiri. Chat with him (second option) and then use that little square,
it should be placed in Katagiri's pocket. Move to next screen, do the same
as before and put the little square in the middle door. You'll be on a
soccer field and you will get to see Pierre. Talk to him and then move to
the last place in the places menu. Do the same as before and Misaki's
father will appear, use the second option to talk to him and then go to
the last place, it will now be the mythic Eiffel Tower. This part appears
to be somehow random, but make the same as usually and then try to leave
this place some times, you won't be able to do so but at a certain time
you will find Misaki. THIS IS SOMEHOW RANDOM, may occur or not, so please
don't mail me asking about it.

4.~ Frequently asked questions

Q: I can't put Wakabayashi playing, what should I do?
A: Although you will see him all over the game, he will just be playing
in the last match, the one against Germany. There, just trade
Wakashimazu for him.

Q: Where can I find Tarõ Misaki?
A: Near the Eiffel Tower, at a certain part of the game. For more info,
see the part of this faq which refers to this topic.

Q: How can I get Hyuga's NeoTiger Shot?
A: Try fighting against Italy. After that game, you'll receive Coach
Kira's Black Ball, which Hyuga will use in order to learn his
powerful NeoTiger Shot.

Q: How can I score a goal to Dutter Muller? I don't have Hyuga's
NeoTiger Shot!
A: Hum...Try using Tsubasa's Drive Shot right I front of him (without
any player between you and the keeper) or from a corner kick... If
you still can't seem to score at all, try levelling up, since it is
a good way to for increasing your players stats. If, still, you can't
make it, try using Tsubasa and Hyuga's "mythic" Twin Shot.

Q: How can I perform Tsubasa and Hyuga's Twin Shot?
A: If the opponent GoalKeeper defends lots of your shots (like Gino
Hernandez or Dutter Muller), Tsubasa will get a new, one-time shot
(careful because you won't see any event or something), If I remenber
correctly it costs 500 "energy" but it is a really powerful Twin Shot
which can only be used once per match. SO, use it wisely.
